Herd Manager (KH-10229)

Job description:

A large dairy operation located in New York are searching for an experienced, hands-on Herd Manager to oversee the day-to-day operation of the dairy. This position is ultimately responsible for the health, safety and performance of the milking herd and leadership of the herd personnel. The number one priority of the Herd Manager is to achieve top financial performance for the business, and the health and well-being of all animals. Must be hands-on and work side by side with the team to complete the day-to-day activities required to manage a large commercial dairy herd. Will work closely with the general manager, herd crew, feeder, veterinarian and nutritionist, vendors, barn crew, and the milkers. This position will share responsibilities with the herdsman for problems on a night and weekend basis, or as needed. Must have excellent record keeping skills and will manage inventory and supplies for the operation. Dairy uses Dairy Comp and SCR monitoring tags. Must speak Dairy Spanish.

- Strong herd health experience
- AI breeding experience or willing to learn
- Youngstock experience
- Feed / nutrition knowledge
- Parlor management
- Inventory / supply experience

- Computer skills
