Senior Controls EngineerOur client is a manufacturer of lumber drying equipment installing their
equipment across the US. Most customers and installation sites are on
the East coast.
This position is responsible for leading the electrical and process
controls efforts for the organization. The senior controls engineer
provides process automation/project engineering support and services to
our clients as well as continuous improvement and product development
for our equipment and controls systems. The objectives of this position
are to manage the implementation of our equipment utilizing best
practices and technologies to optimize equipment performance in safe
operation, production efficiency, finished product quality and cost
effectiveness to meet client requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Drive continuous product improvement.
- Stay abreast of new technology and methods and their integration
into our products.
- Process and process control expert
- Design, specification, costing, project management, procurement,
installation, and commissioning of projects
- Develop and implement new processes, improve safety, improve
quality, reduce costs, and improve product performance.
- Communicate with project team and clients to define the functional
and safety requirements for each project and ensure the completed
project meets the needs of the client.
- Provide engineering support and technical guidance to clients and
project team members.
- Troubleshoot issues by phone and in-person as needed.
- Evaluate suppliers and contractors for the procurement of equipment,
services, and labor to complete projects on time, on budget and to
acceptable quality standards.
- Commission projects to meet contracted goals.
- Train clients and staff in safe operation of equipment
- Write operations manuals and maintain and distribute documentation
to both staff and clients as required.
- Interpret and create mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Assist with Preventative Maintenance Programs
Required Skills
- Thorough understanding of automated control systems, computer
integrated manufacturing and electrical systems including power
distribution, PLCs networks, human-machine interfaces, automatic
control systems and safe wiring practices.
- Demonstrated technical, electrical, and mechanical aptitude.
- Proficient in PLC and VFD applications and setup
- Proficient in PLC and VFD programming, LANs, and device networks
- Highly computer literate
- Ability to effectively diagnose and solve problems.
- Demonstrated creativity and initiative in attacking and solving
problems.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and AutoCAD
- Proficient using hand tools and measuring devices such as VOMs,
meggers and ammeters.
- Ability to communicate clearly both written and verbal.
- Good interpersonal skills
- Leadership skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical/Automation Engineering or
the equivalent from an accredited institution
- 5+ years manufacturing/industrial/field service or related work
experience
- 5+ years of experience integrating industrial automation and PLC
controlled systems
- Ability to travel 70% or more depending on project requirements.
- Valid state drivers license with clean driving record
- Physically fit with the ability to work in hot environments both
indoors and out.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
