Summary of the Embedded Controls Development Engineer:Our client, a developer of next generation electronic brake technologies, is looking for a Embedded Controls Development Engineer to play a key role developing advanced brake systems. In this position, you'll develop core motor controls and/or application software for next generation technology. You'll work through the full development life-cycle, working primarily in Matlab and Simulink. This is challenging, exciting new work for a company that offers stability and long-term growth options.
Responsibilities of the Embedded Controls Development Engineer:
- System Analysis and Documentation
- Establish baseline system requirements for advanced drive by wire electric brake applications;
- Manage and establish core work products used for validation of system requirements;
- Collaborate with the cross-functional engineering team to establish system requirement specifications.
- Collaborate with the cross-functional engineering team to establish component-level requirements for optimized system architecture and performance;
- Support system engineering team with the establishment of use and test cases with traceability to system requirement specifications;
- Collaborate with the system engineering team to ensure requirement traceability throughout the development lifecycle.
- Participate in team reviews to make sure the development work processes are compliant; generate necessary evidence report for demonstrating the compliances.
- System Design and Development
- Based on the system requirement specifications, optimize the system architecture and design to ensure complete requirements coverage.
- Establish the theoretical system model from first principles using conventional or analytical system dynamics;
- Work with subsystem/component design engineers to establish necessary system parameter requirements.
- Develop closed-loop models of advanced brake by wire systems for feedback control and estimation development.
- Validate the closed-loop system robustness and parameter sensitivity using MiL and RCP bench techniques.
- Verify the system performance against the system requirements in case of any change from subsystem or component level parameters;
- Develop system countermeasures as needed in order to achieve project requirements;
- Request and support specialized equipment development for characterization of electrical and mechanical sub-components of the electro-mechanical assembly under development;
- Support the system test engineer to execute both System Test and System Integration Test plans as needed.
- Based on the system requirement specifications, optimize the system architecture and design to ensure complete requirements coverage.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree (PhD a plus) with a concentration in system controls, or mechatronic systems, with 4+ years of related industry experience.
- Experience modeling closed-loop system dynamics using Matlab/Simulink
- Solid background with motor controls
- Strong understanding of coupled electromechanical system dynamics
- Strong theoretical & numerical modeling capability
- Experience using system optimization techniques to ensure optimal system design solution
- Experience in Linear and Non-Linear System Theory and Controls
- Preferred
- Familiarity with vehicle ESC and braking systems
- Experience with PMSM motor control
- Experience with parameter identification techniques
- Track record of establishing modern closed-loop control systems
- CarSim for closed-loop MiL and/or HiL validation
- Rapid Control Prototyping using dSPACE toolchain and Mathworks Real-Time Workshop
- Experience developing Matlab GUI for internal toolchain development
