(This position is fully and permanently remote and can be located anywhere in the United States).

Job Summary:

  • This is a search for a Director of Accounting Policy with an acquisitive, established/entrepreneurial, Life & Annuity carrier that is planning to go public.   • Reporting to the SVP, the Director of Accounting Policy will be part of a team that is responsible for Accounting Policy and all Strategic Transactions the company enters.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the companys efforts in the evaluation and implementation of new accounting pronouncements relating to GAAP and Statutory accounting. This entails specifically leading company through long duration targeted improvements standards implementation company wide and helping with the completion of CECL implementation.
  • Keep up to date on new and emerging technical accounting policy developments and related regulatory developments.
  • Working together with VP to determine potential impact of new accounting standards to the company, develop strategy and help steer the companys directions in mitigating risks introduced by standards, and develop communication to manager, executives and audit committee.
  • Participating in any written correspondence with ACLI, standard setters or regulators.
  • Take lead in drafting and updating of the Companys accounting policies, including identifying areas for improvements.
  • Serving as a liaison for accounting issues with both internal and external audit staff.
  • Identifies accounting issues/concerns and recommends mitigation solution(s) to management.
  • Working together with financial reporting team to provide inputs on quarterly and annual financial data for GAAP and regulatory reports.
  • Assist the VP and manager of accounting policy and strategic transactions on M&A and reinsurance transactions.
  • Provides technical accounting support on M&A activities and strategic initiatives by identifying any accounting issues and developing/integrating technical accounting policies for acquired companies, as needed.
  • Identifies accounting issues/concerns and recommends mitigation solution(s) to management.
  • Carries out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines.
Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in GAAP and Statutory insurance accounting.
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance and CPA designation required.
  • Experience researching, documenting and communicating technical accounting matters.
  • Experience with life, annuities and health insurance and reinsurance accounting.
