Seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Payroll and Benefits HR Specialist to join their team. Reporting to the VP of Human Resources, this roles responsibility is to provide payroll and benefits processing for employees across Ontario and assist the HR team with tasks as required. This role is remote and can be based anywhere in Ontario.

WhatYoull Be Responsible For:

  • Ensuring the timely and accurate processing of biweekly payroll with in-house payroll software
  • Receiving, reviewing and importing department timesheets into the payroll system.
  • Preparing and emailing pay slips and exporting payroll direct deposit information and uploading to the bank
  • Processing manual cheque requests and ROEs as required
  • Review and complete government remittances such as source deductions, WSIB, EHT and RRSPs to ensure payments are made in a timely manner and by due dates
  • Preparing monthly reconciliations and payroll journal entries
  • Completing all year-end reconciliations including T-4, T-4As, T2200, general ledger, WSIB,EHT reconciliations and assist with year-end audit requirements
  • Maintaining confidential employee files and the information contained in both the hard copy HR files and the HRIS
  • Providing support for the organization with information on employment-related funding opportunities available through various resources throughout the province. (ie. HRDC Summer Career Placement Program, Job Creation, Canada Wage Subsidy, etc.)
  • Enrolling and terminating employees in the benefits program, and maintaining employee benefit files
  • Assisting with different HR tasks such as new employee onboarding, recruitment, and employee relations items as required

Qualifications:

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Payroll Compliance Professional Designation or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a payroll specialist or coordinator role
  • Working knowledge of all provincial and federal legislation relevant to payroll and benefits
  • Experience and proficiency with the accounting functions related to payroll and benefits
  • High proficiency with various legislative Employment Acts, including Human Rights Code, Employment Standards, and Pay Equity Act
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and proven analytical skills
  • Proven ability with MS Office (Excel, Powerpoint)

Complimentary Experience:

  • Experience with new payroll software integration would be considered an asset
