Job Responsibilities
Understand electrical engineering fundamentals and provide technical advising for operations and maintenance while maintaining high standards for process safety
Directing, managing and supporting the maintenance, repairs and upgrades of 15 kV, 4160 & 480 volt equipment and large power rectifiers rated 680 Vdc 20,000 ampere is a fundamental requirement
Be a technical resource for the plant electrical technicians & electricians on equipment
Be aware of or be capable of developing relationships with outside contractors experienced in the support of the equipment when needed
Optimize daily production to achieve business and plant goals (i.e. EH&S, quality, reliability, cost)
Assist in writing and reviewing unit operating manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and Maintenance Procedures (MOPs) in assigned areas of the plant
Lead advance equipment/process troubleshooting and coach others to learn such skills
Engage as equipment/process owner resource in assigned areas of responsibility for daily maintenance and turnaround activities
Initiate management of change (MOC) for process design and implementation of minor plant system changes including small equipment additions, modifications, and/or removals
Participate in commissioning of new process equipment installations
Provide operational and technical support to project coordinator(s) for large, extensive plant system changes including operational review, assistance with cost/benefit analysis, and participation in hazard reviews
Occasionally interface with contractors and vendors as project/process owner
Support plant leadership with plant material balances, yields, closures, project design scope, etc. as deemed necessary to maintain operations
Facilitate and ensure that appropriate root-cause analysis is completed, and corrective actions are implemented to address unplanned events
Perform internal technical training sessions
Share weekend call duty with other technical staff personnel
Understand and applies all Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) operational requirements
Perform duties in a manner that protects personal safety as well as the safety of all personnel on-site
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Electrical Engineering (Technologist/Technician degree adequate). A trade electrician with the correct high voltage/rectifier experience would also be a good fit.
Be willing to learn and take training courses in the relevant electrical topics the Engineer is not conversant
3-10 years experience (job level/compensation scales vary with experience) in the design, specification, maintenance, and troubleshooting issues related to 15kV, 4160/480V electrical equipment in a chemical manufacturing environment or related industries
Preferred Requirements
3-10 years Chlor-alkali operations experience
Electrical power system & power electronic educational and work experience
Experience working with high voltage transmission equipment (Switchgears, transformers, rectifiers, harmonic filters, polarizers, etc.)
3-10 yrs in the design, specification, maintenance, and troubleshooting related to 15kV, 4160/480V electrical equip in a chem manufacturing environment or related industries
