Insure customer service as an expert in process control and a resource to others. Able to handle multiple problems simultaneously. A champion of change setting new company standards with the ability to communicate the importance of these changes to all levels of the organization. Determine the most effective way to utilize the installed process control system and provide information to others for control system migration needs. Know the plant and the business and determine ways to have a positive impact by continuously improving profitability, safety, and environmental performance across multiple sites or businesses. While control system availability of the unit is of critical importance, the level of system performance, basic enhancements to plant controls are a requirement to maintain this position. Breakthrough improvements to complex problems are expected as the role progresses.

Key Accountabilities

  • Recommend, develop, and implement small to extensive changes to instrumentation, Advanced Process Control strategies, plant operating methods, and the plant control systems based on business and operations objectives across multiple businesses or multiple sites including international operations
  • Ensure effective use of control technology through support and modification of applications in the area of process control, process information, and process optimization including business integration. Be aware of cost benefits from industry trends in process control and be able to recommend and implement these enhancements
  • Develop control system training for Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering personnel
  • Determine when additional PC&E or contract resources are required to solve control-related problems and when problem resolution requires non-PC&E related solutions. Determine priorities-based work with operations management
  • Serve as a PC&E point of contact for project additions for CAPEX, PC&E, and Maintenance delegating work to the process control specialist when appropriate
  • Work with Process Control Specialist to ensure complete coverage of items listed above. Work to develop the expertise of the Process Control Specialist so that more value may be brought through continuous improvement effort



  • BS degree in engineering - Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical considered. Technology degree with experience is considered
  • 8 (eight) years minimum total engineering experience preferably (6) six-year minimum involving process controls work
  • Formal Training is preferred on systems or tools used in process control systems
  • Knowledge of Process Units both batch and continuous process within the process industries. Support of process operations is a plus
  • Knowledge of Advanced Process Control Systems including advanced regulatory control, model-based control, inferred properties, and multivariable control is a must
  • Expertise in one or more Distributed Control (DCS) Systems and databases
  • Expertise in one or more Programmable Logic Controller hardware and software
  • Experience in advanced regulatory controls and unit continuous improvement methods
  • Experience with implementing and / or maintaining multivariable controls in an operating environment
  • Must be able to work with teams or independently depending on problem needs.
  • Good interpersonal skills and teamwork skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with computers and applications especially MS Office 365 Suite
  • Professional Engineer license is of benefit
