JOB SUMMARY:

The Revenue Cycle Officer is responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial direction and oversight of multiple departmental units within the revenue cycle. This leader will coordinate with other senior leaders to ensure that all operational revenue functions are aligned and optimized to meet or exceed customer requirements, maximize cash collections, and minimize cost to collect.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsibilities to include admissions, prior authorizations, billing, coding, collections, denials, payment review, cash posting, refunds, and customer service.
  • Direct department reports will include Patient Access and Patient Financial Services with a total of 85-90 staff members.
  • Perform ongoing auditing and monitoring of Key Performance Metrics (KPIs) to ensure a consistent high level of performance is achieved for both hospital and physician practice billing & collection.
  • Lead revenue cycle process improvement activities.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for departmental managers, staff, physicians, and administration for obtaining information or clarification on documentation standards, state and federal law, and regulatory requirements relating to coding and billing.
  • Ability to adapt to a constantly changing revenue cycle environment. Willingness to be an instrument and proponent for change.
  • Lead several key projects initially, which could include contract management, internal/outsourced staffing, pricing transparency, third-party software, centralized billing, work-from-home practices, and improved training/onboarding of patient-access personnel.
  • Mentorship to other revenue cycle management personnel.
  • Lead various initiatives as directed by Corporate Officers, to include research, ROI analysis, education, implementation, and follow-up reporting.

Qualifications:

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or related field from an accredited university. Master's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in an acute care hospital setting with extensive exposure to revenue cycle functions.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience. Experience managing other managers and reviewing staffing requirements.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of policies, governmental regulations, and business practices pertinent to the department.
  • Working knowledge of hospital and professional billing, and an in-depth knowledge of Medicare and managed care billing and payment practices.
  • Knowledge of provider-based billing is preferred.
  • Emergency department and orthopedic department billing experience is a plus.
  • Advanced understanding of all revenue cycle functions and interrelationships.
  • Experience and expert knowledge of Accounts Receivable and cash collections management.
  • Highly developed computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with people at all levels.
  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task in a fast-paced setting, and work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to negotiate effective working relationships and develop positive resolutions to conflict.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent management skills.
  • Strong organizational, financial, leadership and administrative skills to manage multiple issues simultaneously combined with ability to effectively prioritize.

  • Self-motivated, with a high degree of accuracy with concentration and close attention to detail.
  • Commitment of 24-hour accountability.
  • Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties.
