PROPERTY ACCOUNTANT
Work Hours: Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. 5:30 p.m.

Job Summary:

The Property Accountant is responsible for preparing internal and external property financial reporting and maintaining related general ledgers. S/he must be a responsible individual who is highly detail-oriented and possesses strong aptitude for figures.


Essential Functions:

Prepare property financial statements for internal and external reporting

Prepare account reconciliations and monthly journal entries on accrual basis

Review project-related accounts payable, payroll, cash receipts and rent rolls for accuracy

Prepare Fixed Asset Schedules for Real Estate additions

Work with and assist Property Management staff with annual project budgets and financial data

Upload budgets, ACH disbursements, and other intercompany activities into the accounting system

Provide cash flow management and analysis on tight budget projects


Job Responsibilities:

Review project-related accounts payable, payroll, cash receipts, and PM provided rent rolls for accuracy

Prepare bank reconciliations

Prepare Fixed Asset Schedules for Real Estate additions and depreciation

Maintain loan payable and interest roll forward schedule

Prepare monthly journals on accrual basis for posting

Prepare General Ledger accounts reconciliation and supporting documents for assigned properties as appropriate

Upload intercompany activities and ACH cash disbursements into the accounting system

Provide cash flow management and analysis on tight budget projects

Assist in processing monthly accounts payable and accounts receivables, as assigned

Prepare and produce properties financial statements for internal and external reporting

Work with Assistant Controller to identify and coordinate system changes and training mechanisms for other accounting department/staff

Work with property management and other department staff to provide financial data

Assist Property Management staff with the annual project budgeting process

Input project budgets and upload third party management reports into the accounting system

Ensure that project accounting records are maintained in a safe and orderly fashion

Assist auditors during the annual audit of the project books

Represent the organization to governmental agencies, auditors and any external accountants

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Basic knowledge of U.S. general accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

Good knowledge of double-entry accounting through general ledger

Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines

Strong computer skills in using accounting software, spreadsheets, and word processing

Strong analytical skills, good organization skills, and constant attention to details

Good verbal and written communication skills

Good interpersonal skills

Ability to operate in a team environment and also able to work independently

Ability to work under tight deadlines

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Computer knowledge in accounting systems, spreadsheets, and word processing

Preferred Qualifications:

One to two (1-2) years general ledger accounting experience

Prior experience with residential property management

10-key by touch
