As a new Staff Accountant II, you will be hands-on in accounting support of this commercial real estate and investment firm. They have multiple staff positions open acrosstwo primary divisions, (1)Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) and (2)Property Accounting. Specific interest in either sector is welcomed, or a mutual determination of the best fit may flow from conversation.

The CFO and CAO are in the Des Moines, IA, office, along with other members of the accounting and finance team. Other executives are in CA, TX, MN, NY, etc. The opportunity to be co-located with the senior finance team in the desirable Des Moines metro is available, or this role may be filled as a remote opportunity nationwide for the exceptional self-directed candidate.


General Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Experience and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Requisite years of specific experience as noted for either track.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written / verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and strong interpersonal skills
  • Well-versed with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Public accounting experience is a plus

Track One: Staff Accountant II, REIT Equity:

  • One to three (1-3) years of overall general ledger experience in accounting or finance.
  • General Accounting - Maintaining the general ledger for the REIT, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, and equity accounting
  • Prepare quarterly reporting packages on a timely basis
  • Assist in ad-hoc projects, including process improvements and system automation of current processes and procedures
  • Helping with year-end tax reporting, including 1099s and K-1s
  • Working closely with the investor relations department to ensure all new investors and changes to existing investors are accounted for appropriately
  • Prepare monthly investor distributions

Track Two: Staff Accountant II, Property Accounting:

  • One to two (1-2) years of experience specific to property accounting
  • One to three (1-3) years of overall general ledger experience in accounting or finance.
  • General Accounting - Maintaining the general ledger for portfolios of properties including preparing journal entries, posting depreciation and bank reconciliations
  • Prepare portfolio-level financial statements on a quarterly basis
  • Assist with year-end audit requests as needed
  • Work with various tenants to request reimbursement for property taxes, insurance, and common area maintenance charges
  • Ad-hoc projects as needed
